Department of Economics, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, in collaboration with Heriot-Watt University, has held an event of ‘Public Lecture and SDGs Talk’ (5/9). The event began with public lecture 'Women Empowerment and Child Health: Implication for Micro and Regional Policy' delivered by Prof. Arnab Bhattacharjee from Heriot-Watt University, United Kingdom. He mentioned several issues and mixed evidence from previous studies regarding the role of women empowerment on child welfare, which call policy alternatives, such as change in law, electoral rules, conditionalities in government transfers, and regional policies in large countries. This event was subsequently followed by SDGs Talk delivered by several discussants from Universitas Muhammadiyah with various topics, ranging from gender inequality to child stunting in Indonesia. Finally, the complexity of issues regarding women and child development in Indonesia needs a particular concern from multiple disciplinary approaches. This event is expected to build a bridge for different academic backgrounds and policy relevance through dissemination of works and public discussion.
